Animal Essentials president Greg Tilford Receives Award as 2019 National Teacher of the Year from the American Holistic Medical Association Council of Elders

Phoenix, AZ – Herbalist and author, Gregory Tilford has received the 2019 National Teacher of the Year Award from the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association’s Council of Elders. The prestigious award was given to Mr. Tilford in acknowledgment and recognition of his work as an esteemed educator in the field of holistic veterinary medicine.

The mission of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association and its 1500+ members is to “advance and educate in the science and art of holistic veterinary medicine…promote the health and welfare of all species of animals… to function as a forum to explore all the modalities considered to be in the field of veterinary holistic medicine… and provide resources through innovation, education and integrative medicine.” The Council of Elders (COE) mission within the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association is to maintain wisdom of experience and the traditions holistic healing alive and moving forward in the field of veterinary medicine.

This award is one of many accolades that Mr. Tilford has received during his intensive 24 year career as a veterinary herbalist, formulator, teacher and author. A highly regarded international speaker, his work transcends conventional science to explore the roles of plants and animals as teachers and keepers of human and planetary wellness. Gregory has authored four books, including the acclaimed “Herbs for Pets, The Natural Way to Enhance Your Pets Life” and dozens of published articles. In recent years he has been traveling the world, teaching and lecturing to audiences ranging from lay pet owners to veterinarians and institutions of higher education as far away as Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Central America. Part of his outreach effort is with bringing bioregional herbalism into awareness, so common plants can be accessed and safely used in the care of animals anywhere, even in the most impoverished regions. Greg’s most current work focuses on the human-animal bond, and how plants, animals and earth are interlinked. In September of 2019, Mr. Tilford delivered the keynote address at the annual conference of the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association. His lecture, “Earth, Herbs and Animal Wellness” received a standing ovation, for his poignant conveyance of the vital roles that holistic veterinarians serve not just toward the health of animals, but in bringing wellness to humankind and the environment as well.
